Water is very important in our lives. We need it to survive, but also water can be very dangerous. For example - sea. One minute - you enjoy swimming in the sea and other - you can be captured by treacherous waves. So we decided to create a dance about beautiful but unpredictable sea.  The dance was performed by girls from our school extra curriculum dance group (girls are from different classes).

School, escaping from the narrow framework of traditional teaching, can bring forth and develop children's skills that will help them to structure their emotional world as a worthy of a new society with a primary focus on man and his environment.

5th grade students suggested and performed the well-known "Singing in the Rain" within the framework of the Erasmus + “Out of Subject Box”, announcing that out of the box can be great creations, contributing to the development of a modern pedagogical system.

We talked about the role of Water in our daily lives and made a Water Cycle model.

Aim – Objective: To help the pupils discover the amazing journey of water through the Water Cycle and understand how water gets to our houses through experiential learning activities.

The pupils created a story about the Water Cycle.

It was based on an interdisciplinary approach which integrated Language, Environmental Education (EE) and Art.

The “project method”.

We listened to the sound of the waves, holding a nylon sheet and then we entered into the “stormy water”.

We created the sound of the sea with percussion instruments.

We listened to the sound of the rain with the help of plastic bottles.

We blew into a small pipe and listened to a slight whistle, and blew into the water and watched bubbles. Then, we blew into straws, which didn’t make any sound at all! But then, when we blew into the water, small bubbles were created once again.

This semester we occupied ourselves with water with the help of our friend, Droppy, which told us everything she saw, listened and lived during her imaginary journey.

Droppy met Poseidon, the ancient God of the Sea and his wife, Amfitrite. We read a book about him and drew him.

Then, Droppy joined the circle of water. We joined it, too, through videos on You Tube.

Then we talked about where water can be found on earth and made a beautiful poster. We were very sorry to be informed that in many places around the world there is lack of water.

In the end, with Droppy’s help, we wrote and drew in small drops the necessity of water.

1^st grade: By studying the relevant model, we discussed the water cycle. Inspired by our Blue Planet, we built our own blue sea bottom, presenting life in it, and building our own ships to harbor the seas.

Older students can be great mentors to younger pupils. We have already had many successful mentoring projects in the past in our school. This time  8 grade students Vaiva and Mija became *teachers* for a reading lesson in the 5^th grade. Together they read a story about FINBO, the whale, who is sad because he cannot play hide- and- seek with his friends- he's too big! After the reading the pupils are going to write a follow-up story in the next lesson.

But we didn't have any books in our hands. Why? We were reading the story in International Digital Children's Library. Pupils were excited to experience a digital walk through the library for the first time. Beacons located along coastlines and harbor entrances have long prevented disasters and saved many lives at sea.

Slovene 4 B class pupils made a working lighthouse, after studying about the electric circuit they  used recycled materials: cardboard, toalet paper rolls, styrofoam and of course a bulb and a battery.

We can't get lost now!

INTERNATIONAL WATER DAY 2019 was celebrated on 22^nd March. This year our pupils discussed the importance of saving water in accordance with the main topic of International Water Day 2019. Sustainable Development goal 6 is crystal clear: water for all by 2030, meaning leaving no one behind. But today many people are still living without safe water, struggling to survive.

    After discussing the important question children made paper boats and wrote their water-saving slogans on them. They made  “a boat regatta“ and decorated their “sea“ with  shells and stones, collected from our incredibly beautiful Adriatic Sea. 

    So, will you turn off the water while brushing your teeth, too? 

Pupils in class 2 C and their teacher Meta used water at Maths  as visual material while teaching / learning parts of the whole. First, pupils used bottle caps, then they did the same mathematical task with water in plastic cups which was a bit more challenging.

During the science lessons they experimented with ice cubes, tested and observed how ice cubes melt if you sprinkle them with salt or put them in water.

Pupils experimented with liquid density and observed how different liquids mix in a *wonder bottle*. They observed the *volcano* effect when they put coloring dye in oil or the bubbles when they turned the bottle upside down and oil came on the surface.

They also learned about life in freshwaters ( rivers, lakes) and life in saltwaters (oceans).

Pupils were asked to visualise and describe their findings and feelings. 

Make jelly fish from peace of plastic bag, as it is in the picture... It is not difficult at first time, but it is very important to blow as much air into jelly fish "head" as you can. It will help your pet to float on the water... Use plastic bottle as fish tank.if you eant to make your jelly fish more visible, put some color into water... Our pre- school children just used ink...  Fill your bottle with coloured water and let your jelly fish into it. turn the bottle bottom up - your pet will imediately move to the top of the bottle. Why yoyr pet is always trying to get outside the water?

You can draw your fish tank, but it will be more realistic if you will use plasticine. Image will be not so flat - you will get simple version of 3D. Children from the 1b class suggest you to try it.

Water can help you to draw uderwater world. Just rumple sheet of paper and put it into the water before drawing. Use watercolors and you wil get soft and blured image - like real underwater world. Children from 3b class enjoyed it very much!

Water is great for dissolving a lot of materials. But not for all of them. What you can dissolve in a cup of water? Children from "4b" tried to answer this question by trying... They put salt, sand, starch, sand, ketchup, different groats, soda, citric acid ect... into water and tried to dissolve them. They wrote experiment results in a special table  compared them and discussed. Sometimes results were unexpected - try to put soda and citric acid into the water together.... :)

At first sight water looks the same, but we know that it can be different. Secondgraders tried to gues -what kind of wter is it? Tap water, distilated water, sparkling mineral water, boiled water and still mineral water? Children tried to taste, to smell water and to gues which water it is. Teacher Rasa, Leila's mom and children discussed together, what differeces of teste and smell they feel and how it is possible to identify types of water. 

Try it in your class!

Pupils in class 4 C started to work on the theme * Water*.  Water is the most important thing for human survival,  so if for some reason you are not able to get clean water, knowing how to purify it can save your life. The main two ways to purify water are either heating or filtering. So, the main aim of this project work was to learn how to make a simple water filter and to understand how we can filter water by using cotton, charcoal,sand, gravel and rocks. Pupils did a great job!

As pupils in class 2A and 2Č already mentioned the words " molecules" and "atoms" , the teachers gave them an opportunity to have a lesson in a chemistry lab where chemistry teacher demonstrated the structure of a water molecule. Pupils learnt that red colour stands for oxygen and white for hydrogen. Pupils wondered why it isn't blue.  Then they learnt about the stucture of ice and what happens when we sprinkle salt on ice.

During Art lessons pupils made models of the structure of ice and a water molecule.

During physical education pupils represented  the atoms of hydrogen and oxygen  (having red and white circles on their T-shirts) and  played the game "Little Atoms". In another game they immitated ice, steam and liquid. 

On 2 February,2019 pupils in class 4B and 4C studied  about water the whole day.  Class teachers, Italian and English teachers co-operated and implemented their good practice experience from the staff meeting in Lithuania in November, 2018. They invited other primary  teachers to observe the activities and  shared the Lithuanian  project – based learning - teaching experience with them.

All day pupils did experiments with ice, made a water filter, studied water cycle, draw water mills and learned new words  in all the three languages: Slovenian, Italian and English. They played games and  puzzles, solved quizzes, made art pieces about water. At the end they reported about their experience and were really excited about it.
