Šiauliai
is the fourth largest city in the north of Lithuania, with a population of 107,086. Centro Primary school is a small school situated in the
center of the city. The school was found 25 years ago so this year celebrates its anniversary. There are 245 pupils aged 6 – 11 and the staff of 25 teachers in the
school. It has got a pre – school group and 10 primary school classes.
Centro Primary School is a public school, owned by the Municipality of Šiauliai. The school is a member of „Step by Step“ association and it is focused on child centered
education. The school isn‘t a traditional school. There isn‘t strict division between the lessons, we work without bell. We have a strong school community and cooperation between
teachers and families. Parents are frequent guests in the Morning Circles. Important part of school life are social partners – Šiauliai University , publishing office „Baltos lankos“, Centre
for Innovative Education, nursery schools, neighbourhood primary schools and progymnasiums. A few co-authors of textbooks based on integrated topic training work in our school so theme
based learning is very common in the teaching/learning process.
Our school was involved in international projects with schools and universities:
· Comenius “Children as Researchers“ „Clasroom of dreams“, „Conflict resolution in Primary schools in Europe“.
· Erasmus „Play and discover Europe“ „Tdivers“
· Nordplius “Be Active. Stay Healthy“
· eTwinning “Green Kids“, and still active “We Love Animals“
This year we have big challenege, responsibility and fun of course, to take part in two Erasmus plus projects - „Out of subject box“ and „Freedom without Chaos“. We hope, that sharing ecperience and cooperation with partners from Slovenia, Greece, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Poland and Portugal will make teaching and learning more enjoyable in our countries and all the Europe.
